A number of new and updated guidelines were launched at the recent European Society of Cardiology congress in Barcelona.
2017 ESC focused update on dual antiplatelet therapy.
This guide, developed in collaboration with European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS), addresses the confusion in the community around the optimal type and duration of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) in patients with established coronary artery disease (CAD), regardless of whether they are undergoing coronary revascularisation or not.
2017 ESC Guidelines on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Peripheral Arterial Diseases. This document, produced in collaboration with the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS), covers atherosclerotic disease of extracranial carotid and vertebral, mesenteric, renal, upper and lower extremity arteries. In these guidelines, the term ‘peripheral arterial diseases’ encompasses all arterial diseases other than coronary arteries and the aorta.
2017 ESC/EACTS Guidelines for the management of valvular heart disease
These guidelines focus on acquired valvular heart disease and are oriented towards management. They do not deal with endocarditis or congenital valve disease, including pulmonary valve disease, as separate guidelines have been published by the ESC on these topics.
2017 ESC Guidelines for the management of acute myocardial infarction in patients presenting with ST-segment elevation
This is updated guidance which aligns with the other ESC guidelines and consensus documents, including the simultaneously published update on dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT), for consistency in the ESC Guidelines strategy.
